Lorem ipsum generator
Four paragraphs of lorem ipsum are already below, ready to copy. Change the count, or open the builder to put placeholder text where it is usually needed in testing — in a description column next to the rest of a record.

Paragraphs, sentences or words
Four field types produce placeholder text, and they nest: a paragraph is made of sentences and a sentence of words.
| Field type | Output | Option |
|---|---|---|
| Word | one lower-case word | — |
| Words | space-separated words, no punctuation | count (1–50) |
| Sentence | 6 to 14 words, capitalised, ending in a full stop | — |
| Paragraph | several sentences in one block | sentences (1–12, default 3) |
The widget above uses Paragraph with the plain-text format, which puts a blank line between paragraphs — the shape a design tool, a CMS field or a Markdown file expects.
Where the words come from — and what this text is not
The vocabulary is 80 words from the familiar lorem ipsum passage, which is itself scrambled Latin taken from Cicero’s De finibus bonorum et malorum. The generator draws words from that list at random to build each sentence. So the output reads like lorem ipsum and has its rhythm, but it is not the canonical passage: it does not open with “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet”, and two paragraphs will not repeat each other word for word.
That randomness is the useful part in a test. A layout tested only with the canonical paragraph has been tested with one exact length, and the line that wraps one word later is the one that breaks.
Placeholder text as test data
Outside a mockup, lorem ipsum is most useful as the filler in a text column: product descriptions, comments, ticket bodies, bios. Put a Paragraph field next to the real-looking fields and every record gets a body of a plausible, varying length:
id,title, author, body 1,Quarterly roadmap review,Ada Lovelace,"Velit nostrud tempor culpa officia. Consequat aute irure magna..." 2,Incident retrospective,Alan Turing,"Laborum minim aliqua sunt. Fugiat excepteur cillum..."
Varying the length is the point: set Paragraph to 1 sentence on some schemas and 12 on others, or add a Blank % so some bodies are empty. The empty and the very long body are the two cases a list view, a card or a truncation rule most often gets wrong.
What lorem ipsum will not test
The vocabulary is short, unaccented Latin. That makes it a poor stand-in for the text that actually breaks interfaces:
- Long unbroken words — a German compound, a URL, an email address. The longest word here, reprehenderit, has 13 letters.
- Accents and non-Latin scripts — Turkish, Arabic, Japanese. Names from the name generator cover eleven locales and are a better test of fonts and sorting.
- Right-to-left text, emoji and combining characters.
- Real content length — a translated string is often 30% longer than its English source; size for that, not for Latin.
Use generated paragraphs for bulk and variety, then add the handful of hostile strings by hand. The QA test data guide covers mixing the two.
Common questions
Is this the original lorem ipsum text?
It uses the same vocabulary — 80 words from the classic passage — but draws them at random, so it does not reproduce the canonical “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet” paragraph word for word. Each paragraph is different, which makes it more useful for testing layouts.
How do I generate a specific number of paragraphs?
Set Rows in the widget: each row is one paragraph, and the plain-text format separates them with a blank line. In the builder, the Paragraph field’s sentences option sets how long each paragraph is.
Can I get lorem ipsum as JSON or CSV?
Yes. Switch the widget’s format, or add Paragraph, Sentence or Words fields to a schema in the builder and export CSV, JSON, SQL, XML or Excel. The text then sits in a column alongside the rest of each record.
Can I get the same placeholder text again?
Yes. Enter a seed in the builder; the same seed and schema produce the same paragraphs every time, so a screenshot test sees identical text on every run.
Why does my layout still break with real content?
Lorem ipsum is short, unaccented Latin. Real content brings long words, URLs, accents, non-Latin scripts and translations that run longer than the source. Test those strings explicitly alongside the generated filler.
